Ammunition is not and can not be tracked like serialized guns. Any adult can buy it legally. Smuggling is the illegal part. I really do not see a practical way to regulate ammunition to keep it here in the states.

Did you miss this part?

Laws in the U.S. that once treated ammunition sales as rigorously as gun sales were repealed in 1986 and haven’t been re-enacted.

Why not re-enact whatever the law was before 1986?

I believe that will only address a part of the problem.

There is a whole reloading business that has grown exponentially in the last 20 years.

Despite the well-known LGF nic, I thought that was more of a hobby thing. I can’t see the cartels participating, when they are awash in money and can buy whatever they want.

We need more CBP officers, so more vehicles can be searched without killing cross-border business.

Check this out, ammoload, for the small guy/entrepreneur.

They are just one of a host of relatively new companies offering ‘small’ manufacturing capabilities.

Scares the crap out of me, to be frank.

I have no idea what they are talking about. Whose laws? This stuff varies by state, but at least in highly intrusive/restrictive California for guns, there is little control on ammunition. We have holiday sales restrictions around 4th of july. Not relevant here.
No background check, no waiting period. Some cities get fingerprints, but that’s not any help unless someone has a felony record. Ammo is way to easy to reload or make to restrict well at all. Good checks at the border make far more sense.

The “public” is ignorant of ammunition. They think guns, alone, are dangerous. The idea that it takes ammunition in combination with the firearm (and a human actor) for the mechanism to serve it’s purpose is beyond most AmIdol viewers.

In other words, Ammunition doesn’t make good headlines.

BTW I used to reload 1000 rounds at a time in two calibers for competition. I figure we made and used 50,000 rounds shooting IDPA and Steel Challenge practice and matches.

re: #8 Rightwingconspirator

OK, reloading is also a threat.

More searches at the border of southbound vehicles are needed.

I looked that up. It was nothing more than record keeping. re: #2 wrenchwench

I lookeed this up, it was nothing more than record keeping. Found on Wiki. This point in the article is dead WRONG.

re: #9 wrenchwench

But not in such a way that it needs to be restricted, which would violate our second amendment right. Imagine the first amendment if you had to register to buy paper or run a printer. Or buy toner. That would be a similar violation of an individuals righs.

Yes, yes he is.

You can now carry weapons in national parks. We just passed concealed carry in WI. Gun show loopholes, homemade ammo, the NRA, every republican and half the democrats, nahhh. There is no real way we are ever going to keep track of guns or ammo. The thought that we could control it at the border is laughable. These guys dig tunnels and build submarines. It would take an army to do it.

I wonder why Joe Arpaio wasn’t there.
